Scarlett is fiercely independent and confident working women. As a Business Development Manager in the pharmaceutical industry, travelling far and wide; Scarlett is no stranger to preparation, meeting new people in strange lands, planning high powered meetings and making tough decisions!
This was very obvious today!
Travel is clearly a regular occurrence for Scarlett. Making her way to the strange and foreign land of Rotherham to work with me, was just another day at the office for her. Arriving ahead of time, very well prepared and ready to create photos, with a selection of outfits she would be empowered to wear, hair and makeup to match, Scarlett is a photographers dream in this respect.
There’s nothing worse for a photographer than hanging around waiting for people to be ready, but Scarlett was born ready! Alongside taking direction well, Scarlett also knows herself, is very comfortable in her own skin, and was exceptionally focused on what she wanted to gain from the shoot; there were no stupid poses, no trying to emulate someone else, I simply photographed Scarlett whilst we talked.
With a keen interest in fashion, blogging, cameras and lighting, Scarlett wanted to know all about these things, and to learn some tricks about how to work with the people. Never afraid to show her inquisitive nature, it was clear how Scarlett is successful in her day job.
Me being a teacher, and suffering from the natural compulsion to explain everything, Scarlett had a whistle stop tour about all things lighting, white balance, composition and the pitfalls of working with ‘some’ photographers. We discussed the benefits of talking whilst working, taking a leaf out of David Bailey’s book on how to get the connection between the photographer and sitter, and forcing it e transmitted through the lens on to the digital sensor, and I think you can agree this approach certainly worked this day.
The whole shoot, including lots of chat, was over in less than 90 minutes. Just how a shoot should be! Thanks Scarlett!
