[whohit]real classic beauty[/whohit] Classic beauty is among my favourite things to photograph. Pushing the lighting envelope to catch the female face in the perfect light is a challenge that I always love to embrace. It is not as simple as just standing a good face in some light. Each face has different dynamics, different skin, shape, and of course ability of expression. Even with the most expression able faces with the most flawless complexions always require a make up artist who can bring the best out in them. Zoe Peplow is one of the best in the industry. Her ability to do just the right thing never ceases to amaze me. From the extremely crazy and flamboyant, to the most subtle of looks, Zoe always get’s it right… Zoe’s Process: “I started by applying a super hydrating primer to the skin to create a flawless base, then using small amounts of a light reflecting highlighter I buffed this into the skin to give a beautiful glowing base. By mixing foundation and primer together it allows you to stipple on a light layer without dulling the highlighter applied previously. Illamasqua’s gel sculpt was applied using the palm of the thumb to the hollows of the cheekbones, nose and around the forehead for a naturally contoured finish” Zoe Peplow. Edits on beauty shoots can often be quite challenging, as the combination of lighting and details in which digital senors capture reveal every detail of a models complexion. Nicola’s good skin and Zoe’s fabulous make up do though mean this was a minimal edit. A little healing and minimal Gaussian blur is all the retouch involved. Colour or Black and white? I love black and white. I don’t always create black and white images for beauty shoots, especially when the make up artist has gone to a lot of trouble to create lots of colour! But fo this shoot the make up lent itself to a mono conversions, and I much prefer the mono shots here. [whohit]jerry willey[/whohit] Our first Portrait sitting is northern actor and very nice man Jerry Willey. Jerry has appeared in some of the most loved British TV shows of the last ten years! From “Where the heart is” to “Scott and Bailey” Words: Ascendance Magazine Images: Lance Burkitt AM: How do you feel about having your photo taken? Is it the same as acting in front of cameras? JW: I enjoyed sitting for Lance as he made me feel at ease, therefore bringing out in me what inspires him. This is what I would expect from any photographer or director worth his or her salt. AM: Have you always had the acting bug? What/ who was it that inspired you to act? JW: I spent lots of my time with family and friends when I was little watching show jumping at Park Hall, which ended up being developed in to the now defunked Camelot theme park. I became involved in the film International Velvet, which Brian Forbes directed. Spending time hanging around the set and watching how people worked was quite an ore inspiring experience at such a young age. So I suppose this had quite a bearing. I went to college to study acting around 19 years ago, played small parts and did lots of featured background to pay the mortgage. I studied at the Houldsworth Rep Theatre until they unfortunately had to close. AM: You’ve played some amazing characters during your career, what would you say is your favourite part so far? JW: I would say a character named Kenny in the BBC drama WPC 56. He was a nasty chap and the sidekick to Charlie Crane, who was a 1950’s gangster. AM:  You have appeared in many well known TV shows. Which would you consider to be your favourite and why? JW: I would have to say without a doubt ‘Scott and Bailey’ it is also probably the most prominent part I have had to date, where over the last 4 years I played DC Jerry Harrison. All the cast and crew are like my TV family and I love it when we are all together. AM: Where else can we see you on our TV’s Jerry? JW: I played DCI Lee Sharp a few years ago in the fabulous ‘Where the Heart is’. I have a nice drama coming out next year in the UK, which is currently being aired on BBC America called ‘The Game’ which is about covert espionage set In 1972 London where I play a Special Forces interrogator alongside Tom Hughes in one episode. Blink and you’ll miss me speeding along in my 1972 Ford Cortina 3.0 V6 GT!  All I can say is it was an ‘interesting’ car to drive. AM: Do you have a favorite actor/ director? Who inspires you Jerry? JW: I would say Richard Attenborough as one of my favourite directors, such a sad loss. A couple of my favourite actors, I would say Mark Wahlberg as he’s in the spotlight quite a lot at the moment and the mesmerizing talent that is Denzel Washington. AM: Actors can be notoriously difficult to get along with, are there any out there who have adhered themselves to you Jerry? JW: One of the nicest actors I have worked with is the lovely Jason Flemyng (The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class). We spent some time chatting about his childhood, Dr Who and his father Gordon, who directed Dr Who in the sixties. AM: What are your favourite movies? JW: The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile are amongst my favourite films; I do have a soft spot for the old Hammer Horror too… AM: A lot of actors have the dream of Hollywood. Have you ever considered moving state side and have a go at the Hollywood thing? JW: I’ve never really considered working on anything across the pond. I suppose, I would give it some thought if the offer came to the table. AM: One last question before you leave Jerry, who is the one character that you would still love to play in your career? JW: One of my favourite plays of all time is John Steinbeck’s ‘Of Mice and Men’. I would love to have a bash at playing Lennie. Men seemed frustrated and unhappy. Today, they’ve been liberated and are much more serene and self possessed. We’re in a world where men have discovered their own identities and discovered it’s bello to want to be beautiful. Men like being liked and like taking care of themselves, but not in a narcissistic way-it’s not muscles at any cost. They do so with great spontaneity, self-irony and balance. When it comes to clothes they love to change their outfits according to the occasion. More than being fashionable, they’ve developed a sense of style and understand the function of clothes.” – Dolce and Gabbana, Milan Dressing right gets tricky when summer turns to fall. It’s too warm for tweed, but shorts just don’t feel right anymore. Now that the key pieces for fall/winter have been showcased we have to look ahead to what’s next. Sharp monochrome patterns, sophisticated sportswear and earthy influences are all set to make an appearance next season, so we’ve the latest trends for you. This piece gives you the right doze how to get it right this fall and winter. There has been a gradual shift towards a unisex fashion trends including colour palette in recent seasons and fall 2014 is no exception. The hues will undoubtedly play an integral role in men’s fashion this fall. Similar to the women’s fashion this season’s men’s collections have also been inspired by a need to explore, travelling back in time or into the unknown resulting in more adventurous use of colour, fabric and pattern through combinations. Slim slacks Designers have called an end to the trend of loose trousers that have been filtering through for the past few seasons. The sixties Beatles inspired stovepipe slacks are back, cropped around the ankle and worn with bulkier layers on the top. Outerwear Designers have taken a ‘more is more’ approach to practicality, over sizing roll necks and adding fur to collar. This coming season invest in the raglan sleeve raincoat something which is less structures with sharp shoulders.Additionally, while big-knit fisherman’s jumpers will be essential for your downtime, fine-gauge roll necks will protect your neck and will look extremely stylish under your black tie attire. Get down with quilting for those icy winter days when wool just won’t cut in. Look out for eye catching, slimmer cut styles in a series of geometric patterns. Colour: Orange is the new black. The bold colour is perfect for bringing some warmth to your winter get-ups. Another shade that is ludicrously easy to wear this season no matter what your style is the dark, leafy green. All black outfits will be prolific this season, which can be livened up by white trims and monochrome patterns. Radiant orchid, a fascinating purple and bright cobalt blue will be quintessential statement colours this season bold and charismatic shades prevalent in everything from sportswear to shoes. Pair these hues with sea fog, a more masculine representation of mauve mist, for a powerfully poised fall look. Prints and Patterns: Linear designs will be everywhere with horizontals across track jackets experimenting with dimensions on balmacaan coats. Classic checks, polka dots along with more contemporary animal inspired and geometric motifs, whether you’re a timeless and refined dresser or like to make more of a statement, it has never been easier to individualise your colder weather outfits. Not just your average picnic table print, gingham was the print of choice for many labels which used the print on three-piece punk skirt suits. Accessories Big, boxy bags are good news for hoarders. The oversized leather bags are the next season’s obsession. Invest in one essential accessory this season and be it the fedora. Not only can you pull of a gangster headgear but also combat the wet weather. Hair: Clean shaven and wet look hair smart, side-parted styles slicked back with gel are worth giving a try next season.
